WR Robbie Anderson reports to Panthers ahead of mandatory minicamp after retirement post

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Robbie Anderson has been in headlines throughout the offseason for reasons that have little to do with his on-the-field production.

Anderson let it be known he's not overly fond of the idea of his employer trading for Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, and he announced last month he was changing the spelling of his first name from "Robby" to "Robbie." The 29-year-old was then in the news this past weekend when he shared a since-deleted tweet that said he's "thinking bout retiring."

It appears he's thought enough about it.

As Josh Alper noted for Pro Football Talk, Anderson posted two pictures showing him inside of the Panthers locker room on Monday:

Carolina's three-day mandatory minicamp begins on Tuesday. Anderson could've been fined over $95,000 if he skipped all of minicamp, and it's unlikely he'll fetch a new deal from the club this summer since he's signed through the 2023 season.

Per ESPN stats, Anderson finished the 2021 campaign second on the Panthers with 53 receptions, 110 targets and 519 receiving yards. He led the team with five touchdown grabs.

There is currently no indication Carolina will trade for Mayfield before training camp. A report surfaced Friday relaying that a "majority" "of league executives, coaches and agents" asked believe both Mayfield and San Francisco 49ers veteran Jimmy Garoppolo will ultimately be released by their teams sooner rather than later.

Mayfield continues to be linked in rumors and stories with the Seattle Seahawks, while it's thought the Panthers would sign Garoppolo as an upgrade over Sam Darnold and third-round pick Matt Corral if the 30-year-old hits free agency.
