WR Ted Ginn Jr. retires after 14 NFL seasons

Veteran NFL wide receiver and returner Ted Ginn Jr. is calling it a career. 

As The Associated Press (h/t ESPN) noted, the Cleveland native returned home to Glenville High School on Friday to officially announce his retirement. 

Ginn entered the NFL when the Miami Dolphins acquired him with the ninth overall pick of the 2007 draft, and, per Pro-Football-Reference, he earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team. He spent only three seasons with Miami, though, and never quite evolved into the all-around superstar many thought he'd become after his debut campaign, but he turned into a solid contributor for five of six total clubs. 

He recorded only three receptions for 40 yards with the Chicago Bears last season. 

Interestingly, Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk pointed out Ginn's 15,749 career all-purpose yards are good for fourth among all players since 2007. Only Darren Sproles and future Pro Football Hall of Famers Adrian Peterson and Frank Gore are above Ginn on that list. 

"I have no injuries, I got some aches and pains," Ginn said through a smile on Friday, according to Cris Belle of Cleveland's Fox 8. "It’s on my own terms, not forced out. Respectfully leaving the game the right way. The way I wanted to."
