Zach Ertz's future with Eagles uncertain after 'heated discussion' with Howie Roseman?

It doesn't seem like Eagles tight end Zach Ertz is destined to play out his entire NFL career in Philadelphia. Contract discussions with the Eagles are essentially going nowhere, and it appears the 29-year-old is getting pretty frustrated.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday morning that Ertz got into a "heated discussion" with Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman this week, and it sounds pretty ugly.

“Late after one practice this week, Zach Ertz and Howie Roseman got into it,” Rapoport said. “A very heated discussion, I’m told. One that was witnessed by several players. An airing of grievances of sorts, with some of that frustration coming right out into the open.”

Contract negotiations, quite clearly, are getting worse between Ertz and the Eagles. It was reported last week that the last offer from the team to Ertz caused discussions to halt. With frustrations flaring, Ertz said last week he wants to spend his entire career in Philadelphia but that he wasn't sure if the feeling was mutual.

The three-time Pro Bowler has two years remaining on his current deal, but after seeing the extension that the San Francisco 49ers gave George Kittle and the deal Travis Kelce inked with the Kansas City Chiefs, the assumption is that Ertz is next in line.

Philadelphia spent a second-round pick on Dallas Goedert, so it seems like they aren't 100 percent committed to making Ertz a legitimate extension offer. If things continue to get worse, we can only think that Ertz will be available in trade discussions...depending on where the Eagles are at that point in the season.

In seven seasons with Philly, Ertz has reeled in 525 receptions for 5,743 yards and 35 touchdowns.
