The Detroit Lions are hoping for a major bounce-back after falling short of their Super Bowl goal, and in order to get that done, they will need several players to step up and improve.
Given the amount of injuries that played out last season, there will be ample opportunity for growth across the roster, which means several Lions could see their stock boost in a positive way. In terms of who is most likely to get that done, an important player has risen to the forefront.
NFL.com analyst Marc Ross put together a list of second-year breakout candidates, and cornerback Terrion Arnold made the cut. As Ross pointed out, the struggles Arnold went through in 2024 as well as some roster improvements help to boost his stock.
"Arnold posted 10 passes defensed in 2024 but committed 10 penalties, too. He has to clean that up, first and foremost, but Arnold has an opportunity to thrive across from free-agent signing D.J. Reed -- much like Sauce Gardner for the Jets -- and develop into a true No. 1 corner."
"The Lions have beefed up their defensive front this offseason, re-signing key components like Marcus Davenport and adding DT Tyleik Williams in the draft, which will only benefit Arnold and the secondary."
Detroit's defense improving across the board will help Arnold this year, and hopefully, the Lions find more quarterback pressure to support their secondary. It's clear that Arnold has been doing his part to improve.
This offseason, Arnold has been behaving like a player that not only expects to take the next step, but is likely to do so. When the playoffs ended, he promised to hit the ground running and so far that has happened.
Early this offseason, Arnold showed the work he was putting in training for the new season. With OTA's coming and training camp after a summer break, there's a bit of downtime on the schedule, something which is not sitting well with a football junkie like Arnold.

It's clear that Arnold is chomping at the bit to get back on the field and show what he can do. When motivation meets opportunity and hard work, the conditions for a breakout exist. It feels a lock that Arnold will take a meaningful leap forward as predicted in 2025.
