A Tom Brady rookie card autographed by the veteran quarterback after the New England Patriots selected the Michigan product with the 199th pick in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft has sold for big money at auction.

The Brady rookie card, from the 2000 Playoff Contenders series, was sold at auction for nearly $556,000 on Monday on the PWCC Marketplace.

Following 100 bids, the signed Brady rookie card generated a closing and winning bid of $555,988.

PWCC Marketplace touts the card as perhaps “the single most important modern football card ever produced” in its listing.

“The offered example easily stands apart from the others, possessing ‘brand new’ qualities throughout,” the listing goes on to read. “The fragile gold foil ticket truly excites as it possesses no visual scuffs, scratches, or imperfections. All four corners are uniformly untouched with the fragile periphery being entirely clean; rare as this card is typically plagued by edge chipping. Furthermore, one of the most difficult aspects of this card, the autograph is seemingly pristine and brilliantly penned in black ink.”

Brady of course is set to appear in his 10th NFL title game in Super Bowl LV on Feb. 7 in his first season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 43-year-old quarterback continues to defy Father Time and seeks his seventh Lombardi Trophy in a showdown with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs at Raymond James Stadium, the Bucs’ home.

It merits noting the sports memorabilia market has been operating at a head-spinning rate over the past few years, as several items have resulted in mind-blowing bids and record-breaking auction sales in 2020.
