The Chicago Bears had a long list of inactive players for their first preseason game on Saturday. But two of their first three selections from the 2022 NFL Draft, Kyler Gordon and Velus Jones Jr., returned to practice on Monday.

Kyler Gordon

With their first pick, the Chicago Bears took CB Kyler Gordon and he likely will play a huge role in Matt Eberflus’ defense. The Bears needed a new cornerback after losing Kyle Fuller and having issues at the position ever since.

Getting Gordon back in practice is a great sign. His ability to match Jaylon Johnson on the other side of the field will be paramount in the Bears’ defense getting the necessary stops in crucial moments.

Velus Jones Jr.

The Bears have a depleted receiving corps and could currently be looking at free agents to fill the void. However, Velus Jones Jr. returned to practice on Monday. Even if he isn’t at full strength, having a body on the field is better than what the Bears had recently.

Other Chicago Bears Players Returning To Practice

Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic provided an update on several Bears players who missed the preseason game Saturday:

  • David Montgomery
  • Cole Kmet
  • James O’Shaughnessy
  • Mario Edwards Jr.

Fishbain also notes that Byron Pringle and Justin Jones are back but on the exercise bikes. Jaquan Brisker and Tajae Sharpe are also working out on the bikes.

Overall, one of the bigger concerns surrounding the Bears roster was the health of Kyler Gordon and Velus Jones Jr.

It’s incredibly fortunate that both players returned to practice and should be a sign of good things to come for the Chicago Bears.
