On Friday, the Chicago Bears bruised the Philadelphia Eagles en route to a fifth consecutive win to improve to 9-3, the second-best record in the NFC.
The Bears proved to be the more physical team, knocking off the defending Super Bowl champs 24-15 in front of 69,879 fans at Lincoln Financial Field.
Chicago’s running game shined, rushing for 281 yards and two touchdowns on 47 carries. Rookie running back Kyle Monangai led the Bears with 130 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries. D’Andre Swift added 125 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries.
During his postgame news conference, Johnson credited the offensive line and running game for finishing off Philadelphia.
“It’s about that running game,” Johnson said. “I don’t think we person so about that running game. I don’t think we, we win that game if our if we’re not able to run the ball like we were. Both the backs over 100 yards was just outstanding. You could feel decisiveness. You could feel them hitting it downhill.”
Friday’s win over the Eagles was the most impressive victory on the Bears resume so far this season. Chicago has mostly beaten subpar teams with backup quarterbacks amid its recent winning streak.
The Bears proved they’re for real, and the 8-4 Eagles have a lot of questions to answer about their team after losing two games in a row. Frankly, Philadelphia didn’t appear close to being the better team on Friday.
Johnson said the team plans to enjoy this win for a few days before preparing for another consequential test. The Bears are set to travel to play the Green Bay Packers on Dec. 7.
“These guys should feel pretty good about what they just did,” Johnson said. “It’s hard to go on the road and beat a good team like that, and yet, I think they still know we have got to get back to work next week, you know? And so we were very pleased with where we’re at.
“We’ll be able to enjoy it for a couple days, and then we’ll be right back to work and on to the next one, because that’s where we’re at in the season. But really happy with how this one went today.”
The winner between the Bears and Packers next week will have the lead in the NFC North. For now, Chicago can enjoy being the top team in the division.
