Broncos Hire Ronald Curry As New Wide Receivers Coach
USA Today Sports

Keary Colbert, who was the Denver Broncos’ wide receivers coach from 2023-2025, decided to leave Denver to become the wide receivers coach for the Baltimore Ravens. As a result, the Broncos hired Ronald Curry as their new wide receivers coach. Here’s more depth on Curry’s coaching resume, while he also has experience coaching alongside Sean Payton

Mooresville Christian Academy (2010-2012)

A native of Hampton, Virginia, Curry attended Hampton High School and played collegiately at North Carolina, where he was a quarterback before the Oakland Raiders selected him 235th overall in the seventh round of the 2002 NFL Draft.

Professionally, Curry made the switch from quarterback to wide receiver, spending the majority of his career with the Raiders while also having stints with the Detroit Lions and St. Louis Rams.

Curry’s coaching career began in 2010 at Mooresville Christian Academy in Mooresville, North Carolina, where he served as the school’s athletic director and head football coach for three seasons.

San Francisco 49ers (2014-2015)

Curry took two years off from coaching but returned in 2014 as an offensive assistant with the San Francisco 49ers. Curry’s tenure as a coach in the Bay Area didn’t last long. The team parted ways with him in 2015 during a coaching overhaul.

New Orleans Saints (2016-2023)

Shortly after the 2015 season ended, Curry joined the New Orleans Saints as an offensive assistant under Payton for two seasons.

In 2018, the Saints promoted Curry to wide receivers coach, and he helped Michael Thomas have the best season of his career in 2019, as Thomas finished the year with an NFL record 149 receptions for 1,725 yards and nine receiving touchdowns.

After Joe Lombardi left New Orleans to become the Los Angeles Chargers’ offensive coordinator in 2021, the Saints promoted Curry to quarterbacks coach, and he also served as the team’s passing game coordinator for the next two seasons.

Buffalo Bills (2024-2025)

In 2024, the Buffalo Bills hired Curry as a quarterbacks coach, working with Josh Allen under Sean McDermott. Curry stayed in Buffalo for two seasons, until new Bills head coach Joe Brady decided not to keep him on staff.

Curry reunites with Payton in Denver, while it will also be interesting to see what he can do alongside Davis Webb. If Curry helped Thomas succeed, it will be exciting to see how he can push the Broncos’ receivers to dominate this upcoming season. He can also emphasize the importance of catching passes, as Bo Nix would have posted significantly more passing yards in 2025 had his receivers avoided so many drops.
