As the Cleveland Browns encroach on the 2025 NFL Draft, they’ll be forced to reckon with the quarterback situation in one way or another.
That could very well start in the first round with the second pick, when Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is liable to come off the board. But if blue-chip prospects like corner/receiver Travis Hunter or edge rusher Abdul Carter are higher on the Browns’ board, that need could get pushed later into April 24 or into Day 2.
Thus, Cleveland is doing its due diligence to explore quarterbacks outside of the top five.
According to Adam Schefter, that process continued on Tuesday when the Browns hosted Day 2 quarterback option Jaxson Dart for a 30 visit.
“Sources: Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart visited today with the Cleveland Browns, and will next fly to Las Vegas to visit the Raiders, sources tell me and @FieldYates,” Schefter posted.
“Dart also has spent ‘considerable time’ during this interview process with the Giants, Saints and Rams.”
Cleveland owns the first pick in the second round, putting the front office in prime position to kick off the Friday festivities with a passer. However, several teams stand in the way on Day 1, and the pressure to take a quarterback will only increase as the draft draws near.
The Pittsburgh Steelers could feasibly reach for Dart at No. 21, but teams scared of that might even jump ahead of them. It remains possible that the Browns trade up into Round 1 late in the evening if Dart slides past their rival, essentially to stave off competitors and add the fifth-year option to his contract.
Dart has his fair share of fans in the media due to his arm talent, athleticism, and optimism on his intangibles that differ from the consensus. He operates the quick game well, has flashed the progressions some are hesitant about, and has the tools to work out of structure when necessary.
Most have him penciled in for Day 2, but it’s important to remember that it only takes one team to shock the football world or otherwise “reach” on Dart in Round 1. It isn’t clear where Cleveland stands on the SEC quarterback, but getting as close a look as possible is entirely necessary, even if another passer earns the front office’s trust.
