Browns in no hurry to trade Baker Mayfield after landing Deshaun Watson?

The marriage between the Cleveland Browns and quarterback Baker Mayfield was seemingly over this past Thursday when the 2018 first-overall draft pick requested a trade at a time when it seemed his current employer had no chance of landing star signal-caller Deshaun Watson. That, of course, changed Friday when news broke the Browns were completing a blockbuster trade with the Houston Texans to acquire the three-time Pro Bowl selection facing 22 civil lawsuits related to allegations of sexual misconduct.

It appears Mayfield could remain attached to the Browns for more than a handful of days.

USA Today's Mike Jones reports that "two people with knowledge of the situation" say the Browns aren't in any hurry to ship Mayfield out of town and are instead "committed to working through the situation and finding the scenario that benefits their organization the most, even if that takes some time."

Mayfield, set to play on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract worth $18.858 million, had been linked with the Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks as far back as last week, but that was before the Colts traded for Atlanta Falcons starter Matt Ryan

Jones adds that the Seahawks, New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers also have "unresolved starting quarterback situations" in the early days of spring. However, there are serious questions about what any team will offer the Browns for a quarterback coming off a lackluster campaign and offseason surgery on his non-throwing shoulder who has clearly become surplus to requirements in Cleveland.
