Browns’ Kevin Stefanski Announces Shedeur Sanders News on Friday

Shedeur Sanders has watched on as Kevin Stefanski and the Cleveland Browns suffered their second straight loss in Week 10, dropping to 2-7 on the 2025 NFL season after a 27-20 defeat to Justin Fields and the New York Jets. Now, the Browns will turn their attention to Week 11, heading back home to face Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.

With quarterback Deshaun Watson still recovering from an Achilles tear, Cleveland has struggled to find consistent play at the position. Joe Flacco began the season as the Browns’ starter before he was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals, opening the door for rookie Dillon Gabriel to take over as the starting quarterback.

But Gabriel hasn’t moved the needle for the Browns. In five starts, the former Oregon quarterback has produced just one win, over the Miami Dolphins, while completing 102 of 174 passes for 869 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions to begin his NFL career. And as Cleveland continues to struggle, some fans have begun calling for the team to turn to its other rookie quarterback.

Sanders was expected by many to go top 10 in this year's draft. But after the former Colorado quarterback slid all the way to the fifth round, the Browns were able to scoop him up. Sanders played well in limited preseason action but has yet to see any significant snaps during the regular season.

While Sanders remains Gabriel’s backup for now, Stefanski revealed on Friday that he is still not receiving first-team reps in practice, a strong indication that the Browns plan to stick with Gabriel for at least a little longer.

"Today, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said nothing has changed regarding Shedeur Sanders' practice reps — not getting snaps with the starting unit as backup QB — but praised the work he's been doing," ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi wrote on X.

Stefanski and the Browns will take on the Ravens on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on CBS in some markets. Check your local listings for games available in your area.
