Cade York is Everything the Browns Wanted

Hopefully, with Cade York kicking the ball, the Browns can get some consistency with field goals.

Why Draft Him?

The Browns really needed help at kicker. They’ve had many kickers in the past that have done nothing but disappointed the Browns. When you think of players like that Zane Gonzalez immediately comes to mind.

The Bengals’ selection of Evan McPherson in 2021 also might’ve influenced the Browns’ decision. And McPherson was absolutely incredible for the Bengals last year.

Last year, McPherson made 28 of his 33 field goal attempts. And some of them came at the most crucial times.

Last year he made the game-winning kicks to win the AFC North, win the divisional round, and win the AFC Championship.

With everything that McPherson did in his first year, the Browns were probably willing to follow in the Bengals’ footsteps.

How is York Performing During Training Camp?

Recently in training camp, York went six for six on kicks. One from a distance of 48 yards that many believe would’ve been good from 60.

And John Johnson III seems to be impressed with York’s ability.

“It flies off his foot. He’s just got a big leg. It could be a 30-yard kick, he’s going to hit it for 60. It flies through the uprights, accurate.”

Well, it will obviously be easier to make kicks during training camp, but we can hope that York can do the same when the new NFL season comes around.
