New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo suffered a serious lower right leg injury in Sunday’s Week 8 road contest against the Philadelphia Eagles. According to the Giants, Skattebo has been diagnosed with a dislocated ankle. He was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Skattebo will miss the remainder of the season, and he has a long recovery ahead of him. It brings an end to one of the more exciting starts to an NFL career by a running back in recent memory.

He sustained the injury early in the second quarter. The Giants rookie’s ankle appeared to be twisted after his leg fell underneath a defender looking to make a tackle. After trainers reached him on the field, a cart was brought out shortly after. He received well wishes and supporting messages from his teammates before he was driven off the field. Even Eagles fans on-hand appeared to give the rookie standout some respect with a round of applause as he headed off to receive medical treatment.

Cam Skattebo’s rookie season is over

Skattebo, New York’s fourth-round selection out of Arizona State, came into Sunday’s game with 398 rushing yards on 4.1 yards per carry, to go along with five touchdowns. He had 23 receptions for 189 yards and an additional score. Skattebo provided a much-needed jolt to the Giants, who will now have to figure out ways to win without him.

“He’s just a good teammate, plays with a high amount of I’d say energy, toughness,” Giants head coach Brian Daboll said earlier this month after the 34-17 win over the Eagles on Thursday Night Football. “Certainly people can feed off that.”

Skattebo had a breakout season at Arizona State in 2024, rushing for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns in 13 games. In the Peach Bowl, Skattebo rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns and caught eight passes for 99 yards and threw a touchdown pass.

With Skattebo sidelined, second year back Tyrone Tracy will see the bulk of the carries. Devin Singletary will see more action as well.
