Chargers Insider Believes Austin Ekeler could Join Division Rival, Old Coach Reunion
USA TODAY Sports

Austin Ekeler has made it very clear that where he ends up playing does not matter. He is strictly a man that wants to get paid the money he believes he deserves after stringing together the best seasons of his professional career.

Most players at his age that possess his type of talent prefer to go somewhere that they believe will at least have a shot at winning. However, the 28-year-old claimed that he will bring the same firepower no matter where he resides and knows his value on a roster. Well, that definitely means he would not mind going to the Denver Broncos.

The Broncos are in the same division as the Los Angeles Chargers but they finished in last place in 2022 with a 5-12 record. They have multiple picks in the later rounds of the upcoming draft and that could catch the eyes of LA's front office in potential trade talks. Denver has a clear hole at running back that Ekeler could fill.

Logan Ulrich of NFL Trade Rumors certainly thinks it could be an intriguing fit, mainly because Ekeler would be reuniting with his old offensive coordinator, Joe Lombardi.

"Getting Ekeler in HC Sean Payton's offense would be fun. Ekeler's two best seasons came with Joe Lombardi calling plays and he's on the staff in Denver now. But the Broncos do have limited cap flexibility and are focusing on getting more picks."

Denver has been trying to dig themselves out of a hole created by their trade for Russell Wilson in the past so this might not be in their best interest. However, Ekeler would greatly improve their offense and he could serve as a mentor to any young RB's they draft.
