Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs now sit at 6-6 as the 2025 NFL regular season winds down, coming off a 31-28 Thanksgiving loss to Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys in Week 13. Now Patrick Mahomes will look to guide the Chiefs back into the playoff picture, beginning with a Week 14 matchup against the Houston Texans.
Despite the loss, Mahomes still had a nice game, throwing for 261 yards and four touchdowns. And he was able to do it without Pro Bowl right guard Trey Smith, who was out with an ankle injury. But the Kansas City quarterback lost another important piece to the offensive line against Dallas as rookie left tackle Josh Simmons left the game in the third quarter.
While nothing is confirmed yet, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Simmons suffered a dislocated and fractured right wrist and left AT&T Stadium with a cast. The rookie is seeking a second opinion before the Chiefs decide whether to place him on injured reserve, a move that would sideline him for the next four games.
Amid the injury concerns for Simmons, Kansas City has elected to bring in several free agents for tryouts, including five offensive tackles. The group includes Nicholas Petit-Frere, Zachary Thomas, D’Ante Smith, Zach Banner and Matt Waletzko. Thomas and Banner have the most NFL experience of the five, with each having appeared in more than 30 games and made multiple starts.
The Chiefs also elected to try out three wide receivers, including Joaquin Davis, Erik Ezukanma and Jha'Quan Jackson, which they posted on the NFL transactions list.
"The Chiefs rarely have tryout players on the NFL transactions list during the season," The Athletic's Jesse Newell wrote on X. "Today, they had a few. The group was made up of WRs/returners and tackles."
