Rashee Rice had a really solid rookie year for the Kansas City Chiefs, coming in sixth in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting. Many predicted he would explode in his second season, but then the worst happened.
While he was trying to make a tackle after an interception in the Chiefs' Week 4 win against the Los Angeles Chargers, Rice tore his LCL. This kept him out the rest of the year, and left the Chiefs without their best receiver.
But according to The Kansas City Star, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has good news and says that the 24-year-old is heading in the right direction.
"He’s on track to be ready (for camp). We’ll see," Reid said. "He’s working his tail off right now, I know."
Rice finished the 2023 season with 938 yards and seven touchdowns while starting in just half of the games that he appeared in. He was a prime candidate to be a second-year breakout, as he was building more trust with Patrick Mahomes.
Despite being without a number of their receivers this season, the reigning AFC Champions were sixth in the NFL in passes attempted with 600. But they were not able to make the top 10 teams in passing yards without a few of their weapons.
If Rice can come back and make his impact felt immediately, he could put the Chiefs in a much better spot to get their revenge and make it back to the Super Bowl.
