The Cleveland Browns have been in the news a lot lately because of their quarterback room. Deshaun Watson is recovering from an Achilles injury, but the team added four others to the room this offseason. However, the team has quietly been building a solid defense. They took Mason Graham fifth overall and added to the defense throughout the draft. The team wasn’t done. On Monday, they signed veteran safety Rayshawn Jenkins to a deal.

Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz reported the Cleveland Browns are signing the eight-year veteran. After spending time with the Los Angeles Chargers and Jacksonville Jaguars, he spent last year with the Seattle Seahawks. In his career, he has ten interceptions, 5.5 sacks, 33 passes defended, and over 500 tackles. Seattle decided not to re-sign him, electing to get younger.
This is a great fit for the Cleveland Browns. The team needs some quality veterans, and Jenkins is well-respected in league circles. While having a young team is great, veterans can help with the locker room culture and pass on certain skills. It also adds another quality defender to an already stout defense. That defense could be called upon a lot in 2025.
Regardless of who starts for the Cleveland Browns at quarterback, the unit isn’t expected to be one of the best in the league. Furthermore, if Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel win the starting job, there will be rookie mistakes that the defense might have to bail them out of. The defense will have to keep games close, and they definitely have the talent to do it.
Myles Garrett signed a massive extension this offseason and is a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate. Teams will not have an easy time moving the ball, especially in obvious passing situations.
It is unclear whether the Browns will win a lot of games in 2025, but they will definitely be an interesting team to watch. The offense will have some intriguing pieces, and the defense should be a ton of fun to watch fly all over the field. Can the Browns make things interesting in the AFC North?
