Once again, Washington Commanders president Jason Wright had his quarterback Carson Wentz’s back on Twitter following Sunday’s 28-22 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Wentz hit a rough patch in the second half, throwing interceptions on back-to-back plays that led to the Commanders relinquishing their lead. Wentz showed signs of the errant play that led to the Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts trading him back-to-back offseasons.
Fans and media reacted accordingly on Twitter, including NFL analyst Warren Sharp.

However, Wentz responded by throwing touchdown passes on the next two drives in the fourth quarter. He first found Terry McLaurin for a 49-yard touchdown to cut their deficit to 22-20. Then, Wentz capped off Washington’s next offensive drive with a 24-yard go-ahead touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Jahan Dotson.
Wentz finished the game completing 27 of his 41 pass attempts for 313 yards and four touchdowns with the two interceptions.
Wentz’s comeback win prompted Wright to respond to Sharp.
I agree. A man of mental fortitude, who after 2 4th quarter picks that conjured bad memories, dug deep, found his poise, pushed aside negative thoughts, and rallied us to victory. An overcomer, to be succinct. Exactly who we thought he was. #HTTC https://t.co/wSP2TMZIv4

Wright has made it a theme to defend Wentz. During training camp, Wright took issue with a line of questions local reporter Scott Abraham of ABC7 directed towards Wentz in an interview.
Wentz has been the target of criticism after his one-year run with Indianapolis. The Colts owner Jim Irsay called the QB a “mistake” after the trade to Washington. Irsay and some Colts players have thrown repeated jabs in the direction of Wentz.
Fair or not, a narrative has followed him to Washington. Yet, Wright isn’t here for it. The commander’s president isn’t hesitant to defend his quarterback, especially when Sharp shares those jabs.
