Herbert has been a model of consistency since entering the league, earning multiple Pro Bowl selections and setting franchise records. Still, narratives around the Los Angeles Chargers' struggles have often overshadowed his individual success.

Chargers safety Derwin James had strong words for critics of quarterback Justin Herbert during his recent appearance on Micah Parsons' podcast.

In a candid conversation on 'The Edge with Micah Parsons', James passionately defended his teammate, urging fans and analysts to stop doubting Herbert's abilities.

“Can we please stop trying number 10? Stop disrespecting him. I promise you. I can’t wait for y’all to see,” James said. “This next season I know we are going to do what we do for y’all to get to see the real 10.”

Herbert, who threw for over 3,800 yards in 2024 despite his main target being a rookie, has been under scrutiny for the Chargers' inability to advance deep into the playoffs. However, James made it clear that Herbert’s talent and leadership are unquestionable, and the team is poised for a breakout season in 2025.

James has become one of the NFL’s elite defenders, earning multiple Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors since his rookie season in 2018. His versatility, playing at safety, linebacker, and even as a pass rusher, has cemented him as a cornerstone of the Chargers' defense. His leadership off the field is equally vital to the team, demonstrated by his public support of Herbert.

James’ comments reflect the growing frustration within the locker room as they prepare to make a stronger push next season under Jim Harbaugh.

Fans and analysts will be watching closely to see if the Chargers can turn those words into action in 2025.
