Detroit Lions cornerback Jeff Okudah suffered an injury in the fourth quarter of the season opener. The second-year defender limped off the field, was looked at by the trainers for a couple of minutes, then walked to the tunnel where he rode on a cart on the way to the Lions’ locker room.

The Lions have an extremely young cornerback room and Okudah, their 2020 first-round pick, was expected to be the team’s best player amongst the group.

In Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers, Okudah gave up a 79-yard touchdown to Deebo Samuel after failing to locate the ball. He did tally four tackles and a pass breakup during the rest of the game, however.

In Okudah’s place, the Lions plugged in third-round rookie cornerback Ifeatu Melifonwu. The Lions also have undrafted rookie Jerry Jacobs available.

We’ll update this post as updates come in regarding Okudah’s injury.

Update: The Lions announced Okudah suffered from a foot injury, and he will not return to the game.
