Doug Pederson 'leaning toward' taking 2021 season off

While the Philadelphia Eagles continue their search for a new head coach, it appears Doug Pederson is close to reaching a decision regarding his future in the NFL.

According to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Pederson said that he's "leaning toward" taking the 2021 season off and preparing for the 2022 campaign.

The only current head-coaching positions open in the NFL are the Eagles and Houston Texans, who have not contacted Pederson about a potential interview. However, Pederson did speak to the Seattle Seahawks regarding their offensive coordinator position, though nothing has come of that.

If Pederson does sit out the 2021 campaign, he should receive multiple interviews during the offseason ahead of the 2022 season. After all, he did win the Super Bowl in 2018.

In five seasons as head coach of the Eagles, Pederson went 42-37-1. After winning the Super Bowl, though, Philadelphia was never able to return to form. After going 4-11-1 in 2020, Pederson was finally given the boot.
