Eagles QB Jalen Hurts' MVP chances could turn in stretch run

As we head toward the stretch run of the NFL regular season, the MVP conversation has heated up, and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts finds himself squarely in the mix.

Hurts has the second-best odds to win MVP, behind Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, per OddsChecker.

The rise in Hurts' MVP odds comes after his eye-popping performance last week against the Green Bay Packers in prime time. He became the first quarterback since 1950 to record 150-plus rushing yards, 150-plus passing yards and multiple passing touchdowns in the same game, per NFL Research

Hurts also broke Michael Vick's record for most rushing yards by an Eagles quarterback in a game with 157.

Former NFL QB Robert Griffin III, who knows a thing or two about being a mobile QB, favors Hurts for the award.

"After what he just did with 157 yards rushing and willing them to victory, he's the MVP. But the Top 3 are Jalen, Tua [Tagovailoa], and Patrick Mahomes," he told NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Even Fox Sports' Skip Bayless, a notorious Cowboys fanboy, gives the MVP nod to Hurts.

The MVP Award typically goes to a player on a team with one of the NFL's best records. Hurts has led the Eagles to a 10-1 record, best in the NFL. Philadelphia was the last undefeated team at 8-0 before falling to the Washington Commanders on "Monday Night Football" and has won two straight since.

Hurts is also the leader of a top-five offensive attack, per ESPN

In his breakout year, Hurts has 2,560 passing yards and 17 touchdown passes to just three interceptions. His completion percentage has skyrocketed from 61.3% in 2021 to 67.3% in 2022.

The dual-threat quarterback has also rushed for 597 yards and eight touchdowns.

Besides games against weaklings in the New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears, the Eagles have games remaining against potential playoffs teams Tennessee, the New York Giants (home and away) and Dallas on Christmas Eve.

Hurts' performance in those marquee matchups could decide his chances at bringing home the MVP Award.
