Fantasy Players Owners Need To Drop After Week 9

With six weeks left in the fantasy football regular season, owners need to realize some players don’t have enough value, and it’s time to hit the drop button. It’s always hard to accept that one of your draft picks was a bust, but for the betterment of the team, it’s time to let go. Here are two players that, if any fantasy owner still has rostered, need to be dropped immediately.

Matthew Golden ( Green Bay Packers)

Heading into the season, fantasy owners had high hopes for Matthew Golden after being selected by the Green Bay Packers in the first round of the NFL draft. With the first nine weeks in the books, Golden has had a lackluster first half with only three games over 10 fantasy points and five under that mark. While he is still a rookie and deserves time to adjust to the NFL, he has shown no fantasy value, and it’s unlikely to improve.

The Packers , at the beginning of the season, had an interesting wide receiver/tight end core, including Golden, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Donayvion Wicks, and Tucker Kraft. The makeup of this offense gave any of those players the opportunity to stand out above the rest and give owners a reliable fantasy option. While some, like Kraft and Doubs, made the most of this opportunity, Golden has not.

Now, with Kraft out for the season with a torn ACL, fantasy owners have a slight hope that Golden will step up and finally show some fantasy value. While this is possible, it is unlikely. The more likely option is that standout receiver Christian Watson, who returned from injury two weeks ago, will steal all the red-zone and deep shot targets.

This leads Golden to play the same role he has been in all year, averaging three receptions and 32.75 receiving yards per game, giving no value to any fantasy owner. The only option for Golden fantasy owners is to drop him and add someone who can actually provide them with a dependable option at the flex position during bye weeks.

Cooper Kupp (Seattle Seahawks)

Signing a three-year, $45 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks, fantasy owners thought Cooper Kupp was going to be set up for another great year. Turns out this wasn’t the case. After the first nine weeks, Kupp has only produced over 10 fantasy points in three games and is only averaging 3.4 receptions and 41.9 yards per game. No one expected him to be the same player he was with the Los Angeles Rams, but the idea that he would be this irrelevant was never considered.

Some owners will come to Kupp’s defense and say his heel/hamstring injury led to a poor game against the Houston Texans and held him out of playing week nine. This may be true, but his only underwhelming fantasy week didn’t come in week seven. In weeks one, three, and four, he had under 6.7 fantasy points and didn’t have more than 31 receiving yards. Playing in seven games and being well under his projection in four has made him unreliable and unstartable.

Following the NFL trade deadline, it’s only going to get worse for Kupp. The Seahawks made one of the biggest trades in the NFL, acquiring Rashid Shaheed from the New Orleans Saints for a 2026 fourth and fifth-round pick. This is a great move for the organization, adding another solid wide receiver/great kick returner for only a few middle-round picks. On the other hand, for Kupp’s current fantasy owners, this leads to no other choice but to drop the former triple crown winner.

Having another starting wide receiver added to the already stacked Seattle offense will only make it harder for Kupp to be fantasy relevant. He may have a few games where he has over 10 fantasy points, but the majority of the time, he will be fighting for targets and end with under five points. The time to drop Kupp is now and take a chance at another free agent before you miss your chance.

End Of My Fantasy Players To Drop After Week 9 Rant

As mentioned, it’s always tough to give up and drop a player you had high hopes for at the beginning of the season. Sometimes this is your only option after they have been a bust the majority of the year. Golden and Kupp have shown no signs of consistent fantasy value, making them unplayable in any starting position. Don’t hurt your team anymore, and go after another role player in free agency in hopes they can give some significant value in bye weeks.
