Gardner Minshew leads Eagles to win with nearly perfect day vs. Jets

Gardner Minshew's 133.7 passer rating in Week 13 wasn't far from the 158.3 maximum and it was more than enough to lead the Philadelphia Eagles to a 33-18 win over the New York Jets.

Minshew, 25, made his first start with the Eagles after quarterback Jalen Hurts was ruled out Sunday morning with an ankle injury. Minshew started red-hot with 36- and 25-yard touchdown passes to tight end Dallas Goedert in the first half and he finished the game with 242 passing yards.

The Eagles acquired Minshew for a conditional sixth-round pick -- it will become a fifth-round pick if Minshew plays more than 50 percent of the snaps in at least three games -- from the Jacksonville Jaguars in August. He started 20 games in two seasons with the Jaguars, throwing 37 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions before Jacksonville picked Trevor Lawrence with the first pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Philadelphia's win Sunday wasn't solely due to the performance of Minshew. He was complemented by Miles Sanders, who had 120 rushing yards, as well as Kenneth Gainwell, who added another 54 rushing yards and an 18-yard touchdown.

The question now is whether the big day for Minshew will force a tough decision for the Eagles at quarterback. Hurts has 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions on the year, and completed just 14 of 31 passes with no touchdowns and three interceptions in his last outing.
