Giants have made a surprising QB decision

New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is in danger of missing Week 11 because of a concussion, but Russell Wilson will not be getting his starting job back if that happens.

The Giants have elevated Jameis Winston to the No. 2 spot on their quarterback depth chart. Winston is expected to start on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, according to multiple reports.

Wilson entered the season as New York’s starting quarterback after he signed a one-year, $10.5 million in March. The deal includes incentives that could raise the total value to $21 million, but Wilson is unlikely to hit any of those.

Wilson started three games for the Giants before he was benched in favor of Dart. The former Seattle Seahawks star has 831 passing yards, 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions this season.

When Dart left the Giants’ 24-20 loss to the Chicago Bears with a potential concussion in Week 10, it was Wilson who entered the game in the rookie’s place. Wilson is now set to back up Winston when the Giants host the Packers.

Winston signed a two-year, $8 million contract with the Giants prior to the season. He played in 12 games for the Cleveland Browns last season and finished with 2,212 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

Winston seemed to quickly establish a strong relationship with Dart during the preseason.

The Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll on Monday and have turned to Mike Kafka as their interim coach. One of Kafka’s first changes was to move Winston ahead of Wilson on the depth chart.
