Isaiah Wynn Named Best Fit For Raiders In NFL Free Agency
Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

The Las Vegas Raiders created a huge void in their lineup when they decided to move on from Derek Carr as their quarterback. They quickly filled that void in free agency, signing Jimmy Garoppolo to become the new starter. It is the first time that Las Vegas will have a new signal caller in nearly a decade as Carr had been the franchise quarterback since 2014.

With the quarterback position now situated, the team can focus on upgrading the other holes on their roster. Arguably the biggest one is in the trenches, as the Raiders need to do some work on the offensive line.

Right tackle has been especially poor in recent seasons. The team attempted to fill that hole with Alex Leatherwood, who many considered a reach at No. 17 in the 2021 NFL Draft. Those people were right, as Leatherwood was a disaster.

Finding a starting tackle at this stage in free agency certainly isn’t easy, but the opportunity does sometimes present itself. One player to keep an eye on is Isaiah Wynn, who was named the best fit in free agency for the Raiders.

Signing Wynn would certainly not be out of character for the franchise, as he was drafted by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. The Raiders have turned into Patriots-West since Dave Ziegler took over the front office and Josh McDaniels was named head coach.

That familiarity would certainly help the transition for Wynn, as McDaniels was his offensive coordinator for the first four years that he was in the NFL. Learning the system and terminology shouldn’t be as big of a task as it normally would be for a player changing teams as he will be familiar with it.

Wynn would be a huge addition to the offensive line in Las Vegas, finally giving the team a bookend to pair with left tackle Kolton Miller. Improving the performance of the offensive line would go a long way to ensuring that Garoppolo can have success in this offense.
