Evan Engram received terrible news ahead of the Jaguars’ Week 5 AFC South matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. The Jaguars tight end has been dealing with a hamstring injury this week, Engram is still listed as questionable for Sunday’s game, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
“TE Evan Engram (questionable, hamstring) is not tracking to play Sunday vs. the Colts, per sources,” Fowler reported. “Engram has been out since Week 1. Barring something unforeseen, Jacksonville will try to pick up first win of season without key target.”
After losing 24-20 to the Houston Texans in Week 4, the closest the Jags have come to securing their first win of the regular season, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson is 0-4 and coaching the only winless team in the NFL this season, thus far.
After the Jaguars lost to the Texans, head coach Doug Pederson was asked if he was worried about his job status heading into Week 5. The 0-4 coach didn’t appreciate the question, calling it a “weird” question before answering it, per ESPN’s Michael DiRocco.
“My status? No,” Pederson replied. Then, he added: “That’s kind of a weird question, but OK.”
The defensiveness didn’t end there. Heading into their showdown against the 2-2 Colts, winless and with a chance of falling to 0-5, Pederson defended offensive coordinator Taylor Press for his efforts in their 24-20 loss against the Texans when asked if he’s considered taking over the playcalling duties for the Jags.
“For what? I thought he called a great game,” Pederson said. “As coaches, we can’t go out there and make the plays. It’s a two-way street. So you guys can sit here and point the finger all you want, and it’s fine. Point it right at me; I can take it. OK. I can take it, so whatever you want. Ask me, say whatever, write, go ahead.”
Without Evan Engram, the Jaguars will look to avoid a 0-5 start with a win on Sunday.
