Jared Goff: 'Nice vote of confidence' Lions didn't draft a QB last week

The Detroit Lions officially landed quarterback Jared Goff in a March trade that involved sending Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams, and some assumed Detroit would acquire a new signal-caller during last week's draft, either by selecting one with the No. 7 pick or trading assets for a proven commodity.

Neither of those things happened, though, as the Lions spent the seventh selection on Oregon Ducks star offensive tackle Penei Sewell and ultimately did not draft a single new addition for their QB room. Per Tim Twentyman of the Lions' website, Goff understandably was a fan of the team's picks.

"It's a nice vote of confidence obviously for me," Goff said of Detroit not drafting a QB. "I think what's not lost on me is that their first move as a staff with Brad (Holmes) and Dan (Campbell) involved me, so it's exciting and it makes you feel good."

Goff added: "When I saw we took Penei, I know the staff was fired up and so was I. Obviously, as a quarterback, anytime you get help upfront that's always good."

It's safe to assume Goff was also happy to read the Lions reportedly have made Pro Bowler Frank Ragnow the NFL's highest-paid center with an extension that links him with Detroit through the 2026 season.
