We are in Day 2 of the NFL free agency legal tampering period, and the Kansas City Chiefs have been busy.

All contracts agreed upon during tampering become official on Wednesday, which is the beginning of the new league year. As they have usually done during Brett Veach's tenure as GM, the Chiefs are filling their roster holes with free agents in order to be in position to select the best players available in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Kansas City has re-signed key players such as offensive guard Trey Smith (franchise tag), linebacker Nick Bolton, and wide receiver Hollywood Brown. It has followed those moves by agreeing to terms with outside free agents such as left tackle Jaylon Moore, running back Elijah Mitchell, and cornerback Kristian Fulton.

You can check out our full Chiefs free agency tracker here. They have addressed many different positions thus far, but one glaring hole remains in their roster -- defensive tackle. Obviously they have a great one in Chris Jones, but there isn't a lot of quality depth behind him, as Charles Omenihu, Mike Pennel and Derrick Nnadi are currently set to hit free agency tomorrow.

That leaves Fabien Lovett and Siaka Ika as the only remaining DTs on the roster. Perhaps there's some untapped potential them, but they haven't had much experience or success at the NFL level to go off of. Not only do the Chiefs need some depth at the position, they need an impact starter to pair opposite of Jones.

It's possible that K.C. uses both free agency or the draft to find DTs. At this point, there are slim pickings left in free agency, but this year's draft is said to be very deep with DTs. Let's take a look at some potential options from both.

Potential FA DT targets for Chiefs

Levi Onwuzurike

I would consider Onwuzurike to be the best DT left in free agency. He recorded three sacks with the Detroit Lions in 2024, and his 47 pressures ranked 16th among all interior defensive linemen. He's had some injury issues, but is still just 27-years-old and is a starting caliber player.

Dalvin Tomlinson

Tomlison is an eight-year NFL veteran who still has some pass rush prowess. Last season he recorded 11 run stops, 36 pressures, and four sacks for the Cleveland Browns. Tomlison would provide experience and leadership, and should come cheap on a short-term deal.

Ta'Quon Graham

Graham was developing nicely before suffering a torn meniscus in 2022 that cost him final six games of the season. He has struggled to regain his form in the years since, but is still a solid rotational piece. It's possible that the 26-year-old finds his way as a starter again in the right system.

Potential draft DT targets for Chiefs

Derrick Harmon

The Chiefs have already had a formal meeting with Harmon, who had an excellent year with the Oregon Ducks in 2024. He led the entire nation in pressures with 55, and has some versatility to occasionally contribute at defensive end. Harmon has tremendous burst out of his stance and a high-level IQ.

Walter Nolen

Nolen's athletic traits may be at the very top among all DTs in this year's class. He possesses an incredible blend of power and quickness, but needs to refine his fundamentals. Chris Jones had a similar profile when the Chiefs drafted him, and that worked out pretty well. With Jones as his mentor, Nolen could be a steal.

Tyleik Williams

Williams could be a great run-stuffer right off the bat for K.C. He has a massive frame at 334 pounds, eating up rushing lanes and opening up paths for pass rushers to get to the quarterback. Williams isn't a predominant pass rusher, but isn't incapable. He could be thought of as a more athletic version of Derrick Nnadi.
