The New England Patriots could be back on track to land one wide receiver that they have already shown interest in this offseason.
After the news came out that the Seattle Seahawks were releasing receiver Tyler Lockett, it was also reported that DK Metcalf has requested a trade. And according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Seahawks are exploring options.
This comes after The Athletic's Jeff Howe reported that the Seahawks intended to keep Metcalf for the final season of his three-year, $72 million deal. And because of their winning record the past three seasons, Howe explains that "it doesn’t make sense to trim one of their best players."
But, thing change quickly in the NFL and this is just another example.
The Boston Herald's Doug Kyed and Andrew Callahan reported last week that the Patriots have "kicked the tires" on a potential Metcalf trade.
And now that he's officially available, the Patriots need to make this happen.
Tom Pelissero: "This is widely regarded as a weaker class for receivers in both free agency and the draft. We've already seen one receiver trade with Deebo Samuel going to Washington and now DK Metcalf -- a fellow second-round pick in the 2019 draft -- could be on the move next."
Ian Rapoport: There is likely to be significant interest in the Seattle star, and both sides will dig into it. A big-time WR who may be on the move.
Field Yates: A trade would likely also include an extension on that deal. It's a weak free agency class at WR and a down year from 2024 in this draft class. He'll be one several teams at least explore a trade for.
Adam Schefter: DK Metcalf also has one year left on his deal and would like a new contract, per source.
