Let’s Not Forget Reality
The Miami Dolphins destroyed the Buffalo Bills last Sunday by a dominating 30-13 win, leaving the Bills Mafia in shock and quarterback Josh Allen visibly upset on the sidelines.
And Dolphins fans should celebrate that victory, yet it needs to be forgotten very quickly.
Let’s not forget the reality of the Dolphins’ current situation.
Stephen Ross continues to serve as the team’s owner, with Tom Garfinkel holding the positions of Vice Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer, and Mike McDaniel leading as Head Coach.
So, all is well in Dolphin land, as last Sunday proved that the Miami Dolphins can still be a playoff-caliber team in 2025.
Or is it really?
Take off the blinders, Dolphins fans.
The executive leadership team that spearheaded the 2019 tank strategy, beginning with the trade of Pro Bowl tackle Laremy Tunsil , remains in charge, except for fired General Manager Chris Grier.
The Dolphins are expected to beat the lowly Washington Commanders on Sunday and are likely to be favored in their next few games against the New Orleans Saints and the New York Jets.
That would take the team to a record of 6-7 with remaining games versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and New England Patriots to follow.
Another win or two would place the Dolphins in a position they are all too familiar with: a mediocre team with a mid-first-round draft pick.
And if the past is prologue, the executive team remains in place.
The same leadership team that drafted busts like Noah Igbinoghene, Channing Tindall, and Erik Ezukanma is still currently with the team.
So, as fans, do we have a comfort level with running it back again in 2026 with the same crew making the decisions in the draft, free agency, and managing what remains of the salary cap?
Stephen Ross needs to follow his own advice, which he voiced at the end of the 2024 season, and not repeat what has failed in the past, i.e., the definition of insanity.
Ross and his family need to start over, beginning with a new General Manager, Coach, and creatively terminating Tua Tagovailoa‘s contract, like what the Denver Broncos and Sean Payton did with Russell Wilson.
So, if the Dolphins win a few more games as predicted, let’s not get ahead of ourselves and lose touch with reality.
The 2025 team is flawed in its current form and needs to fill some significant holes in its roster, including the most critical position on the team, our QB 1.
Let’s hope that Stephen Ross makes the correct decisions after this season.
