Malik Nabers' LSU Receiver Rankings Go Viral

If there was ever a debate about which school produces the best NFL receivers, New York Giants receiver Malik Nabers helped put an end to it.

Nabers, a Louisiana State product, took about a month to entrench himself among the league’s best receivers. He took the league by storm, won over the New York faithful, and cemented his presence as virtually the entire passing offense.

Oh, and he may not have been the best Tigers rookie receiver in his class.

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Brian Thomas Jr. raced Nabers to the Offensive Rookie of the Year ballot, helping prove the notion that LSU is, in fact, “WRU.”

Ahead of the Super Bowl, New York’s phenom was tasked with stacking his LSU peers up against each other. Speaking to Pro Football Talk, Nabers dropped his bold LSU receiver rankings.

He ranked himself first, followed by Cincinnati Bengals superstar Ja’Marr Chase, Minnesota Vikings dynamo Justin Jefferson, Thomas, and New York legend Odell Beckham Jr.

Among them, Nabers fell behind only Chase in terms of targets. He posted 109 receptions, 1,204 yards, and seven scores on 170 looks.

With five more targets, Chase took home the receiving triple crown, leading the league in catches (127), yards (1,708), and touchdowns (17). That’s quite the bar for second place but, hey, confidence is key.

Jefferson joins Chase atop most receiver rankings, deservedly so. No receiver has posted more yards through the first five years of their career, and he’s done so with a handful of non-elite passers under center.

Thomas managed to find similar success with suboptimal quarterback play, too, netting 1,282 yards and 10 scores on a third-place Jaguars team.

The next step for Nabers will be showing what he can do with functioning quarterbacking. Between a free agent addition and a potential first-round rookie, New York stands to upgrade at the sport’s most important position.

With that improvement, Giants fans might just see an optimized version of Nabers, one that isn’t held back by the trials and tribulations of Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, and Tommy DeVito. Then, he might actually deserve his first-place ranking atop such an esteemed list.
