ESPN’s Field Yates reported on Saturday that the Baltimore Ravens and Michael Pierce came to terms on a contract extension. The Ravens and Pierce reportedly agreed to a two-year, $7.5 million contract.
Pierce was all-in on signing off on an extension with the Ravens when they first approached him about the possibility of such a deal.
"It’s very important for me to stay here," Pierce said on Saturday. "I didn’t know that was a possibility at the beginning of the year. I just kind of prayed and let God thank me. Thankful that I've been healthy, and I’m super grateful they wanted me back, so I’m just working and trying to put myself in the best position to be able to play."
Pierce was set to be out of a contract in March. He signed a three-year, $16.5 million deal with the Ravens in 2022, which came on the heels of a one-season run with the Minnesota Vikings.
It was a sigh of relief for Pierce that he was able to reach a resolution on his future with the Ravens before the end of the regular season.
"It was awesome," Pierce said. "Like I said, I didn’t expect it, but I’m super grateful that they want me back. I’m just happy to be here."
Pierce has been a valuable contributor to Baltimore’s No. 1 ranked defense this season. The veteran defensive tackle logged 42 total tackles, three quarterback hits, and 1.0 sacks over 17 regular season games played this year.
