The 49ers are dealing with both a multitude of injuries and a COVID-19 outbreak as struggling San Francisco prepares for Week 12 against the Rams. We now have more 49ers news, and it’s not great.

According to multiple media reports, veteran starting cornerback K’Waun Williams has been suspended two games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug (PED) policy.

This is more bad news for a 49ers team that’s looking to rebound after losing its past three games before a Week 11 bye.

49ers news: Impact of Williams' suspension

A veteran of seven NFL seasons, Williams, 29, has been among the best slot cornerbacks in the NFL. Last season alone, he allowed a sub 70 passer rating when targeted.

Like pretty much the entire 49ers team thus far this season, Williams has been dealing with injuries. He’s currently sidelined with a high ankle sprain that could ultimately cost the impending free agent the remainder of the season.

As for the 49ers, this is just more bad news.

49ers in must-win situation heading into Week 12

San Francisco finds itself at 4-6 on the season and two games out of the final playoff spot in the NFC. It is also in last place in the NFC West after earning a trip to the Super Bowl this past February.

Thirty-one 49ers players are currently on various injured lists. That includes a COVID outbreak within the locker room.

Arik Armstead, defensive line
Javon Kinlaw, defensive line
Hroniss Grasu, center
Joe Walker, linebacker
Brandon Aiyuk, wide receiver
Daniel Helm, tight end
Trent Williams, offensive tackle
D.J. Jones, defensive line
Jordan Willis, defensive line

Jimmy Garoppolo and George Kittle are likely lost for the rest of the season. Reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa tore his ACL back in Week 2 and won’t return until next season.

Things are not going well for Kyle Shanahan and Co. This latest 49ers news only adds to that.
