An investigation has been launched after a noose was reportedly discovered at the construction site for a new NFL stadium.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department announced on Friday that it is investigating the reported discovery of a noose at the site where the Tennessee Titans' new stadium is being constructed.
Meanwhile, the Tennessee Builders Alliance, the organization leading the construction of the new venue, announced that it is halting construction on the site. In a statement shared with ESPN, the organization condemned the "racist and hateful symbol" found at their site.
“This week, a racist and hateful symbol was discovered on our site,” the Tennessee Builders Alliance said in a statement issued to Davenport. “There is no place for hate or racism in our workplace. We reported the incident to law enforcement, suspended work, and launched an investigation.”
Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell issued a statement of his own, expressing concern and pledging the support of the police.
“Obviously, this is an environment where we want to try as hard as we can to prevent scenarios that might be fear or hate-based,” O’Connell said. “We’ve taken some steps, both with local policies, state policy, and partnership with them to try, again, to keep temperatures low and prevent hate incidents like this. It is very concerning, there is an open investigation. I know the Titans are cooperating with Metro Nashville Police and we’ll see what that investigation turns up.”

Fans on social media quickly dismissed the concern as a normal rope that is often found at a construction site or just a prank by locals.
Between past incidents involving a noose being either mistaken or an outright lie, nobody seems to be in the mood to take it seriously.
"Is there a photo? Is it possible that the noose is not a noose?" one user asked.
"The Tennessee Titans have always been a top tier organization. Now they’re graciously installing nooses for depressed fans that want to end it all after watching their poor performance continue. It’s hard being a Titans fan and they know that," a Titans fan joked.
"Cut it down and get back to work?" a third suggested.
But whether it's real or not, the impact the noose is having is very serious. Construction on the stadium is officially halted while the investigation is ongoing.
