The Green Bay Packers are set to begin training camp next week. Finally, the 2025 NFL season is about to get underway.
It has been a long offseason. Fans cannot wait to see live football back on their TV’s. For fans of the Packers, they’re hoping that the upcoming campaign will be full of winning and more playoff success than the last two years have produced.
Since Aaron Rodgers left town, Green Bay has made the playoffs in each of the last two years. Jordan Love has looked the part of a potential star at times, but in others he has been a non-factor.
Entering the 2025 campaign, the roster looks well set up to compete in the NFC. However, there are still a couple of areas that Brian Gutekunst and the front office could look to improve.
Those main two areas are both on the defensive side of the football. The Packers could use another cornerback and they could also use another pass rusher.
With that in mind, Green Bay has been connected as a potential suitor for three different players.
Joseph Vanadia of Packers Talk has suggested three names for the team. Rasul Douglas, Jadeveon Clowney, and Asante Samuel Jr. were all listed.
Douglas would be an intriguing pickup for the Packers. He had a very successful stint with the team previously and would be welcomed back with open arms. As he showed his first time around in Green Bay, he’s a more than capable playmaker in the secondary.
Clowney, a former No. 1 overall pick, has never lived up to the hype that surrounded him coming out of college. However, he is a violent pass rusher who could play an important role within the Packers’ defense.
Finally, the most intriguing option would be Samuel. He is just 25 years old and could be a long-term addition. After parting ways with Jaire Alexander, Green Bay could use a long-term piece at the cornerback position and Samuel has elite potential.
Will the Packers actually look to make a move? That remains to be seen. But, if they are open to it, these three names are worth keeping a close eye on as potential targets.
