Patrick Mahomes’ 2025 season ended in frustration after what had been another demanding year at the center of the Kansas City Chiefs’ offense. The two-time NFL MVP suffered torn ACL and LCL ligaments in his left knee during Kansas City’s Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, an injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the year.
Before going down, Mahomes completed 62.7% of his passes for 3,587 yards, 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions across 14 games. He also added 422 rushing yards and five scores on the ground. But his effort was not enough as the Chiefs failed to make the playoffs.
As Mahomes continues his journey to full recovery, head coach Andy Reid provided an update on Mahomes’ recovery on Friday. He detailed the quarterback’s dedication and praised his commitment to rehab.
According to Reid, Mahomes is spending up to seven hours per day at the team facility working through his recovery program.
“He spends a ton of time here… He’s making progress every day,” Reid said. “He keeps showing up. That’s half the battle on these things. You’ve got to fight through it and attack the challenge.”

Mahomes underwent surgery in December and has since begun a structured rehabilitation plan. While no firm timetable has been set, he has publicly stated that his goal is to be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season.
“The doctor said that he could,” Mahomes said of a potential Week 1 return. “But I can’t predict what happens throughout the process. That’s the goal — to be ready Week 1 and have no restrictions.”
Last season marked the first time in his career that Mahomes would miss the postseason. Since taking over as the Chiefs’ starter in 2018, he has led the franchise to three Super Bowl championships, earning two regular-season MVP awards in 2018 and three Super Bowl MVP honors along the way.
The Chiefs will continue to monitor his progress, but Reid’s comments suggest Kansas City expects its franchise quarterback to be fully engaged in the recovery process as he works toward reclaiming the offense next fall.
