Patriots HC Bill Belichick texted Justin Turner to convince him to join Red Sox

Having spent the last 23 years as the head coach of the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick has become close to the heart of much of "Red Sox Nation."

The 70-year-old, six-time Super Bowl champion apparently has enough influence to convince some MLB players -- namely two-time All-Star Justin Turner -- that "Beantown" is a great place to call your home city. Turner appeared on MLB Network's "High Heat" on Tuesday and described how Belichick convinced him to join the Boston Red Sox this offseason.

Despite being three months shy of his 71st birthday and having missed the playoffs in two of the last three seasons since Tom Brady left New England for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Belichick told reporters earlier this week that he intends to be the Pats head coach next season. New England would've made the tournament this winter with a Week 18 win over the Buffalo Bills but instead lost, allowing the Miami Dolphins to sneak in. The Patriots finished the year 8-9.

In what's been a busy offseason of both additions and subtractions, the Red Sox officially signed the 38-year-old Turner to a contract last week. The former World Series champion with the Los Angeles Dodgers recorded 13 home runs and 81 RBI with a career-high 36 doubles and a .278/.350/.438 slash line over 468 at-bats in 128 regular season games in 2022.
