Patriots officially list Mac Jones as out vs. Packers; Brian Hoyer will start

Well, things have certainly changed quickly regarding Mac Jones' status for Sunday's game between the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers.

As early as a few hours ago, Jones was considered a potential game-time decision as he both showed up to Patriots' practice on Friday and reportedly was responding well to treatment. Even head coach Bill Belichick wasn't officially counting him out just yet.

In less than an hour, the quarterback's official status for Sunday's game has changed. In fact, Ian Rapoport is reporting that Jones is officially now listed as out.

Veteran backup quarterback Brian Hoyer will start for the 1-2 Patriots as they look to take on the 2-1 Packers at Lambeau Field. Hoyer has been in the NFL for 13 seasons. He's been in New England for seven of those seasons, including this year.

The start on Sunday will be the 40th of Hoyer's career.
