Rams TE Could Be Fantasy Football’s Hidden Gem Amid Tutu Atwell Injury

The Los Angeles Rams are suddenly thin at wide receiver, and that could mean opportunity — both for the team and fantasy football managers.

Head coach Sean McVay confirmed this week that wideout Tutu Atwell has been placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. While McVay noted the team believes Atwell will only miss the minimum four games, the ripple effects of his absence will be felt immediately.

Atwell’s impact rarely shows up in the box score — just four catches for 164 yards and an 88-yard touchdown this season — but his speed stretches defenses vertically and creates breathing room for Puka Nacua and Davante Adams underneath. Without him, the Rams lose their best deep threat.

Ferguson’s Role Expanding

Enter Terrance Ferguson.

The rookie tight end out of Oregon has been eased into the Rams’ offense but flashed serious potential before the bye week. He has just two receptions this year — for 52 yards and a touchdown — yet those came on a 26-yard average depth of target (ADOT), the highest on the team. Simply put, he’s been their most efficient downfield option in limited work.

Ferguson’s snap share has also trended upward, from 17 offensive snaps in Week 6 to 34 in Week 7. He’s clearly carving out a role in Sean McVay’s system, and with Atwell sidelined, his usage could spike dramatically.

A Smarter Fantasy Football Play Than Tyler Higbee

Veteran tight end Tyler Higbee has re-emerged as a short-to-intermediate option for Matthew Stafford, logging 10 targets and one touchdown in his past two games. But Ferguson offers a dimension Higbee doesn’t — vertical explosiveness. In an offense that thrives on timing, spacing, and misdirection, Ferguson’s athleticism (4.6-second 40-yard dash, 39-inch vertical) gives Stafford a new way to stretch the field.

Fantasy football managers looking for a high-upside streaming option at tight end should take notice. With Atwell on the shelf, Ferguson’s big-play potential could make him one of Week 9’s best under-the-radar adds.

If Stafford builds chemistry with him — and history suggests he will — Ferguson won’t just be a one-week flier. He could be the Rams’ next breakout weapon.
