Ravens HC John Harbaugh: Lamar Jackson return 'boosted everybody's spirits'

Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews assured everyone last month that star quarterback Lamar Jackson was "extremely motivated and extremely hungry" despite his decision to remain away from voluntary workouts this spring. That was weeks before Jackson reported to the Ravens on Monday for his physical ahead of their three-day mandatory minicamp that began on Tuesday.

As Jamison Hensley noted for ESPN, Jackson made his first appearance at an official practice this offseason on Tuesday, and the 2019 NFL Most Valuable Player in the final year of his rookie contract largely looked like his old self.

"I think everybody knows that Lamar, he's what drives our team," Andrews remarked. "The energy around him being here lifts everybody up."

Meanwhile, Ravens coach John Harbaugh praised Jackson for being "physically in very good shape" and "in great physical condition."

"It's great to have him out there. He kind of boosted everybody's spirits, too," Harbaugh added.

Jackson is serving as his own agent for contract negotiations but, per reports, "hasn't been interested in engaging in" serious discussions on a lucrative extension. The 25-year-old isn't scheduled to speak with reporters until Thursday.

It's unclear if Jackson is willing to sit down with general manager Eric DeCosta for contract talks this summer. If he doesn't, Baltimore can always use the franchise tag next March to retain his rights for at least the 2023 season.
