Ravens lose QB Tyler Huntley to COVID list; Josh Johnson likely to start vs. Bengals

Tyler Huntley took over as the Baltimore Ravens' starting quarterback in Week 15 while Lamar Jackson was out of action with an ankle injury. Now, the Ravens appear likely to turn to third-string quarterback Josh Johnson with Huntley headed for the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Huntley, 23, completed 70 percent of his passes with 215 yards, two passing touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns and no interceptions in a losing effort against the Green Bay Packers. The former undrafted free agent has been a pleasant surprise for the Ravens who has received rave reviews from teammates and coaches, but he will now be out of action after reportedly feeling sick Friday.

He didn't practice Friday and the Ravens called it a "non-COVID illness," but that switched Saturday when Huntley was ruled out.

Jackson is listed as questionable for the key AFC North matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, but is reportedly not expected to play. That means Johnson, who was signed by the Ravens off the New York Jets' practice squad less than two weeks ago, is in line to take the reins for Baltimore.

Johnson is a 35-year-old veteran who has spent time with 13 different NFL teams and is in his second stint with the Ravens. If he starts Sunday, it'll be his 37th NFL game and ninth start. Earlier this season, he twice took over for the Jets due to injury and threw three touchdown passes and one interception in relief duty.

The Ravens are tied with the Bengals for first in the AFC North with matching 8-6 records, although but currently sits in first place due to a Week 7 win over Baltimore. Neither the 7-6-1 Pittsburgh Steelers nor the 7-7 Cleveland Browns are eliminated from winning the division title.
