In addition to Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson, San Francisco 49ers signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo has been among the most-discussed veteran quarterbacks this NFL offseason when it comes to trade rumors. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Tom Brady's former backup with the New England Patriots is likely to be moved in March, despite some big injury news.
Garoppolo injured his shoulder during the wild-card win over Dallas, per sources. He does not need thumb surgery for another injury he also played through. Surgery is expected to happen shortly. There is “significant interest” in Garoppolo from multiple teams, per sources.

Schefter added that estimates are that "Jimmy G." is "expected to resume throwing sometime prior to the July 4 holiday."
Garoppolo just wrapped up his eighth NFL season and fifth in the Bay Area. The Niners are expected to turn to 2021 third-overall pick Trey Lance in the 2022 season and beyond at quarterback.
In 15 regular-season games last season, Garoppolo finished with 68.3% completion percentage, 3,810 passing yards, 20 passing touchdowns and 12 interceptions, while picking up 51 yards on 38 rushing attempts.
Lance brings significant rushing upside, as he gained 168 yards and scored one touchdown on the ground via 38 carries as a rookie. The 21-year-old also went 41-for-71 (57.7%) with 603 passing yards, five passing touchdowns and two interceptions in 2021 through six games, including two starts.
