Disgruntled Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson reportedly prefers a trade to the New York Jets. However, it appears the Jets are not considered the favorite to land the Clemson product.
According to Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins are seen as the front-runner to land Watson.
"The chatter is getting louder," one league source told Beasley. "Watson feels like the situation [in Houston] is unfixable, and Miami is seen as the front runner behind the scenes."
It's not surprising that the Dolphins and Jets are seen as favorites to trade for Watson. Both teams have a lot of draft capital and both have young quarterbacks they could send to Houston in Tua Tagovailoa and Sam Darnold.
It's unclear what the Texans' opinion is of Tagovailoa and Darnold. However, Tagovailoa has a little more stock than Darnold at the moment after a solid rookie campaign.
Watson is reportedly upset that he has been left out of the team's general manager and head-coaching search. Texans owner Cal McNair previously told him he would be involved.
Despite Houston's struggles as a whole this season, Watson had the best statistical season of his career in 2020, completing 70.2% of his passes for 4,823 yards and 33 touchdowns against seven interceptions. He also ran for 444 yards and three touchdowns.
The young quarterback could easily help take Miami's offense to the next level. If Brian Flores and company pull the trigger on a trade for Watson, the AFC East will get much more difficult for the Jets, Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots.
