Report: Panthers 'would listen' to trade offers for former first-rounder Shaq Thompson

The 2022 season has already been a disaster for the Carolina Panthers.

At 1-5 with an interim head coach in charge, many expect the Panthers to sell off some of their more valuable assets ahead of the November 1 NFL trade deadline.

So far, the likes of Christian McCaffrey and Robert Quinn have hit the rumor mill. However, according to SI.com's Albert Breer, you can add former first-rounder Shaq Thompson to the list.

While the Panthers might be willing to entertain offers for McCaffrey, a player like Thompson may be a more realistic option on the trade market.

"The Panthers would listen to trade offers for Christian McCaffrey and Shaq Thompson," Breer wrote. "Trading McCaffrey would be a little complicated because of the position he plays, and his contract. And the 28-year-old Thompson, he's a different, versatile linebacker, but there are high-mileage questions on him, too."

As Breer pointed out, Thompson's injury history is a concern.

The 28-year-old missed 11 games last season with an ACL sprain. Over his eight-year career, Thompson has dealt with shoulder and hamstring injuries along with plantar fasciitis in 2017.

Thompson has recorded 39 tackles in six starts for the Panthers this season.

Selected 25th overall by the Panthers in 2015 out of Washington, Thompson has compiled 613 tackles, 11.5 sacks and three interceptions in 106 games in Carolina.
