Report: Sterling Shepard to miss Giants' Week 3 matchup vs. 49ers with turf toe

The New York Giants finally had their full starting lineup healthy for Week 2 against the Chicago Bears. Heading into Week 3 against the San Francisco 49ers, things are going to look a little different.

While the club already will be without star running back Saquon Barkley for the remainder of the 2020 season due to a torn ACL, New York likely will be without one of their top receivers on Sunday. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Sterling Shepard will miss Week 3 due to a turf toe injury.

Shepard injured his toe during the second quarter last week against the Bears and did not return to the game. The 27-year-old finished with two receptions for 29 yards and one rush for six yards.

Darius Slayton has been the Giants leading receiver and Golden Tate made his season debut during Week 2 after missing the season opener with a hamstring injury. Slayton, Tate and tight end Evan Engram will be key pieces to the offense moving forward without Barkley and Shepard.

The Giants also signed Devonta Freeman as a replacement for Barkley, but he probably won't put up significant numbers like Barkley has in the past.

Luckily for New York, the 49ers also are very banged up at the moment. Injuries to Jimmy Garoppolo, Nick Bosa, Raheem Mostert and Richard Sherman, among others, could prove to be costly entering Week 3.
