Patrick Mahomes, widely regarded as one of the NFL’s most dynamic quarterbacks, has faced increased scrutiny during the 2024 season. The Kansas City Chiefs star, with two MVP awards and three Super Bowl titles to his name, has set an exceptionally high standard throughout his career.

However, his performance this year has been marred by inconsistency and turnovers, raising questions about his form. Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe openly criticized Mahomes’ performance during his "Nightcap" podcast.

“Look how many interceptions he has as opposed to touchdowns,” said Sharpe on his podcast. “It’s damn near every game you pencil in Mahomes is going to turn the ball over at least once. He’s not playing well. He has not played well this year.”

Through 10 games, Mahomes has recorded 2,404 passing yards, 15 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions—a notable decline compared to his usual standards. His turnover struggles have been a key talking point throughout the season.

The conversation intensified after the Chiefs’ first loss of the season, a 30-21 defeat to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Mahomes completed 23-of-33 passes for 196 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions in the game.

His turnovers proved costly, playing a pivotal role in Kansas City’s inability to capitalize during key moments. These mistakes have added to growing concerns about Mahomes’ ability to meet expectations this season.

Sharpe didn’t stop there, further critiquing Mahomes’ lack of consistency compared to previous seasons.

“Mahomes used to play clean for the entirety of a game,” Sharpe added. “He would go stretches where he would have five, six, and seven games and he would be virtually impeccable. Now you hope you can get five or six possessions in which he’s impeccable.”

Despite these critiques, the Chiefs still hold a strong 9-1 record. For Mahomes, the remainder of the season provides an opportunity to regain his usual elite form and lead Kansas City toward another deep playoff run.
