Steelers HC Mike Tomlin could be on hot seat in 2023

Head coach Mike Tomlin just completed his 16th consecutive winning season with the Steelers, the third-best stretch for a coach in NFL history. However, he may find his seat getting warm in 2023.

Pittsburgh missed the playoffs this season. And if it happens again, things could start getting uncomfortable for Tomlin.

"If Tomlin doesn't get back to the playoffs in 2023, I think his seat will get warm, but it's not warm yet," the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ray Fittipaldo said.

The Steelers last won a playoff game in the 2016 season, with their last Super Bowl appearance coming in the 2010 season. Pittsburgh prides itself on having very little turnover at head coach, but fans are starting to demand better results.

Steelers president Art Rooney II was also noncommittal on giving Tomlin a contract extension during his end-of-year news conference. His deal expires after the 2024 season, but Pittsburgh typically re-ups it two years out.

"You know, I don't like to speculate on a coach's contract, so we'll see," Rooney II told reporters.

Tomlin is still viewed as one of the better head coaches in the league, but the Steelers will need better results in 2023 if he wants to stay their head coach for the foreseeable future.
