The biggest way NFL schedule makers can hurt the Detroit Lions in 2025, this could be a major concern

The Detroit Lions' 2025 schedule will drop on Wednesday, and there's going to be one thing that we're keeping our eyes on this year. One thing that could really make the Lions' lives hard this coming season.

We're talking about the weather. The Lions already have the third-hardest strength of schedule in the NFL. If they then have to play some of these away games in the snow, that's only going to make it harder.

In the last two seasons, the Lions have received gifts from the league. In 2023, Detroit had to play on the road in a cold-weather game just one time, and that was their Week 14 loss to the Bears. Every other game was indoors.

In 2024, they got that treatment again with just one cold-weather game in the winter months. That was their Week 16 game against the Bears. Their other outdoor game was in San Francisco, and it was nice out.

This year, the Lions have to play outside in Philadelphia, Chicago, Green Bay, Washington, Baltimore, Cincinnati, and Kansas City.

Some of these games are just going to have to be in the winter months, but where they're placed is going to make a difference. If the Lions have to go to Green Bay or Cincinnati in November, then that's probably alright. If they have to go there in December or early January, then that's a whole other story.

We're going to see how it all lays out on Wednesday. There are some ways where the Lionc can get out of the snow or blustery wind more often than not, but the likelihood is that it's going to be really hard to completely avoid it altogether.
