Culture! Process! The Texans sound like the guy at the end of the bar who got an MBA, but all he can do is repeat the newest buzzwords he read in CEO Magazine. It’s all hat and no cattle. The clip above starring David Culley, patsy, is just a ridiculous line of meaningless drivel. The panda suit after a 24-pack of Zima makes far more sense.
What if the Texans take the toxic positivity route with Davis Mills?
Via Kenneth, the NextGen stats don’t like Mills. You don’t have to look hard to see that Big Matt Weston doesn’t like Mills. My comp for Mills is Brian Hoyer: he does a little of that, he does a little of this, but he doesn’t do anything particularly well. As we’ve discussed multiple times on Battle Red Radio, the best quarterbacks always have at least one elite skill. Mills has none, and I don’t think that’s going to change.
If you want to argue that taking a quarterback high in the first round in the 2022 NFL Draft is a bad strategy? Yeah, I can buy this. There are definitely concerns about the level of competition Malik Willis faces. Matt Corral is definitely an interesting prospect. Still, if you are wary of both of them? I’m hip.
What worries me more is that the Texans’ front office, in all of its toxic positivity glory, is going to look at the broken glass that is Davis Mills and think it’s overflowing.
It’s bad enough the Texans looked at six years of Bill O’Brien’s overwhelming incompetence and thought, “You know? Everything is fine.” I can see the same happening with Davis Mills, and we get stuck with a poor man’s Andy Dalton for the next six years because of hopes, dreams, motivational posters, and toxic positivity.
Davis Mills, in no way, shape, or form, is the long-term answer for the Texans at quarterback. He would not be a first round pick in 2022. He’s a backup quality quarterback (though high-end!). He’s not going to win you a Super Bowl.
How the Texans handle Mills is going to be a big test of their competence, and it’s not one I think they will pass.
